Interests: I love history and researching first hand accounts (even with all their faults). I love being married and sharing my life with such a great man. Most of the time I'm listening to country, but I'll occasionally stray. I'm not a big TV person, but I love Alias, House, & NCIS. Our family includes an adorable kitten named Belle, who goes a little psycho sometimes!

Expertise: I know quite a bit about history and even more random crap that will probably never help me.

Nicholas is here!!

He finally made his appearance on May 3, 2007 at 4:55 pm after about 15 hours of active labor.  He weighed in at 7 lbs 5.6 ounces and 19 inches long.  He's absolutely amazing and we've never been so in love!

Just thought I'd update, even if it's not very exciting!

I had my 38/39 week appt today now that my OB is back. Things look good as far as Nicholas goes. He's NOT breech, nor am I measuring that far behind. I am measuring 36 weeks, but he said that's just because he dropped. My OB didn't seem to think that Nicholas was ever breech, just that she (the OB from last week) wasn't sure exactly what she was feeling.

So far I'm 3-4 cm... 80% effaced... -1 station. Which means... nothing, LOL! I know, I know, I can walk around like that until 42 weeks. But it did make me feel better because I know my body is preparing. I would have been disappointed to find out that I wasn't dilating or softening at all. He did strip my membranes after asking if I'd like him to... hurt but wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Afterwards he said I was dilated to 4! I had some bloody show though, which he thought was a good thing. Now I'm just crampy... but hoping that turns to more!

The bad thing? That itching is PUPPS. He gave me some benedryl and a topical cream to use. Hopefully this little guy will come out SOON so it can start going away!!

37 Weeks - 5 Days

Tuesday, April 10, 2007

Just a little update...

I think there are still a few people who read this, so I thought I'd post a small update.

We're 36 weeks now... a wonderful feeling because our clinic/hospital now considers Nicholas full term!  So theoretically, he could now come any day now.  In all reality?  He's probably going to hang out in there until his eviction date of May 20 (2 weeks overdue).  But I can dream, right?

Things are ready for him.  We're typical first time parents and have things ready way before necessary.  But anyone who knows me well knows that, if things WEREN'T done, I'd be freaking out right now.  As it is, I'm just anxious.  We started childbirth classes last week (hospital won't let you start until the month before you're due) and they're going well.  I think it's a good thing and will give us some good information.  This Wednesday we're supposed to do the labor & delivery tour, and that's something I'm really looking forward to.

The car seat install was today, and that made me feel a lot better too.  One of the girls I used to work with is a car seat tech, so she came over to walk us through the install.  Some people will think that's ridiculous... as for me?  I recommend it to any mom... first time or not.  Car seats are picky things and it doesn't matter how high your car seat is rated if it isn't installed correctly.  I felt a lot better when she went over all the features of our particular seat that make it a really good choice.

His bag is packed... mine is not.  Not that there's all that much to take.  I do have lists made (I'm a huge list person, it's pathetic) so even if my water broke right now, it'd be quick to pack.  I figure I'll pack it after the class on Wednesday when we go over what the hospital will provide.  I keep worrying that we're going to forget something though... and I think that stems from knowing that the hospital is a good 30-40 minutes away.  It's not like back home where Mercy Southwest is 15 minutes away in traffic.

So I guess that's it.  My OB is leaving to do Arctic Care so, according to him... Nicholas can't come between the 13th and 27th   I would LOVE before the 13th, haha!  But this whole pregnancy I've been saying I want him to come on the 27th.  Maybe I'll get my wish?
